Where Reading Meets Doing
You've read the books.
You've highlighted the pages.
Now it's time to do the work.Join LA's first experiential book club built for integration, not just discussion. Every month, we read a book that offers practical tools for change, then we show up together and do the work. Because insight without action is just entertainment - and we're here for transformation.

This isn't your typical book club.
The Abbot Kinney Book Club is designed for people who are tired of buying great books and never quite putting them into practice. Led by a librarian who understands that implementation is where most of us get stuck with learning, we choose high-impact nonfiction like Atomic Habits, The Big Leap, and Four Thousand Weeks, then spend our time together doing the exercises, trying the challenges, and experimenting with new tools. You'll leave each session having tried something, not just having talked or read about it. We're building accountability, structure, community, and real results. This is a club for people who understand that the books don't work unless we do.Think of it as part book club, part experiment, part excuse to finally do the thing you've been meaning to do.
This is for you If:
Your shelves are full of personal growth books you've never finished
You've highlighted a hundred pages and implemented nothing
You want to grow, create, or shift something, but need the structure and community to actually follow through
You're ready to stop consuming wisdom and start integrating it
Most book clubs discuss. We practice.Reading is just the starting point. What happens next is up to us.
This is where the transformation starts.Join the mailing list to vote on what we read, get early access to tickets, and stay in the loop on everything we're building together. Here's what you'll get:Vote on our monthly books
You help decide what we read. Every month, we poll the community and let democracy pick our next title. Your voice shapes the club.Get the book title one month early
Once voting closes, you'll get the winning title a full month before we meet. That's plenty of time to read, reflect, and show up ready to do the work.First access to tickets
In-person gatherings are intimate by design, which means they sell out. Subscribers get the link before anyone else.YouTube workshop updates
Can't make it in person? We create guided videos so you can do the work from home. Same practices, real results, your own pace.Behind-the-scenes updates
What's working, what we're experimenting with, and occasional recommendations for books, tools, and practices worth your time. This isn't just another newsletter. It's your backstage pass to a book community where books are just the beginning.

Our gatherings are 90 minutes of focused, hands-on integration. You'll receive the book title one month before we meet, giving you time to read it. Come prepared: finish the book beforehand so we can spend our time doing the work, not discussing it.When we gather, we move through the exercises that most people skip. This is where transformation actually happens - not in the theory, but in the application. You'll practice, experiment, and leave with real momentum. We meet at Moss in Venice, a beautiful creative space designed for connection and collaboration.Want in?
Sign up for the mailing list to be the first to know when tickets and dates are released for January. You'll also get to vote on which book we tackle next.
Can't make it to Venice? We create guided YouTube workshops after each gathering so you can do the same exercises from home - on your schedule, at your pace. These aren't recordings of the live event. They're purposefully designed follow-along videos where you move through each practice in real time. If we journaled for 10 minutes, you'll journal for 10 minutes. If we experimented with a new framework, you'll experiment too. Same transformation, your own space. The best part? You're building a library of practices you can return to again and again. Pause when you need to reflect. Rewind if you want to go deeper. Revisit exercises that resonated.Subscribe to stay updated on new releases, occasional live workshops, and bonus content.

Hana is a librarian who has built her career at the intersection of information, community, and meaningful experience. She's worked across libraries and institutions on both coasts, teaching information literacy and research skills. As City Lead and National Chapter Manager for Reading Rhythms, she spent years cultivating book communities across Los Angeles.Today she leads as Director of People & Culture at a creative design agency, where she strengthens teams and shapes workplace culture. She's also a certified forest bathing guide and speaker at Lectures on Tap, where she delivers talks on book culture, literary history, and the enduring power of libraries.Whether she's designing employee programs, guiding forest meditation, or facilitating book discussions, Hana creates spaces where people feel supported to grow and try new things.
We meet at Moss in Venice, California, a co-working and co-wellness space designed for people who take their growth seriously. The space is rooted in Japanese-inspired minimalism and wabi-sabi philosophy—beauty in the perfectly imperfect, clarity in simplicity. With naturally lit rooms, a meditation area that blurs indoor and outdoor boundaries, and a community kitchen where connections happen naturally, Moss is built for focus, reflection, and meaningful gathering. It's the kind of place where you can think clearly, try something new, and feel supported while doing it.This is where we'll work through exercises, experiment with practices, and build the kind of community that shows up for each other. The space itself mirrors what we're creating: intentional, beautiful, and designed for transformation.
